Vag-com / 1.4tdi 52reg

Post by polo916 »

Just found this very interesting and helpful form , Name id John and live on the western Isles.

Hi, just had a 52reg Polo 1.4 tdi (red eye, what ever that means) Now I have been trying to get Vag-com to work, the unit is from China, picked up on last visit (kwp2000+) I have got the unit working with the laptop etc but when it comes to talking to the ECU it can not find the correct baud to connect, some one told me that you have to remove a fuse for the instrument panel, but there is no mention of this fuse in any book etc that I have ,looked in to. If anyone has any idea or had got vag-com working with there 9N I would be very greatful for any direction.

Thanks
John

Polo916,
It all depends on the type of cable you got from china. I presume you got a USB connector at one end as these are the most common.

If so, you need the right drivers for the cable. It should have come with your cable. Mine did but I got the latest from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm as mine was based on the FTDI chip. The drivers make the USB cable look like a serial (COM) port.

I did not have to remove any fuses to make it work.

Hi, thanks for the replies etc. I have the correct driver for the unit and cable, it is a USB and uses the com3 port (thinks) but when trying to access the ECU it just keeps going around the test routine looking for a baud number. even had the driver emailed from the guy we bought it from in China and still have the same results. very strange.
