SOMEONE JUST RAN ME OFF THE ROAD

Post by JoeG07 »

Ok im not an impatient driver, but was on my way home from work tired and hungry and this vans doing like 10mph on the main road so i over took him. So the guy flips on his main beams and i was like "ok wotever" and then he accelerates and is literally right up my arse about a foot away. So i thaught "better not go home dont want this nutter knowing where I live!" Turned onto a site street and still he follows, I'm chipping around the back streets but my lil polo dosnt stand a chance against it, anyway I slowed to turn onto another road and the guy accelerates and shunts harsh into the back of me. BANG as the lampost on the corner takess off my wingmirror, I was that close to hitting it head on, and landed up in the hedge. Thankfully i managed to get his number as he shoots off. Phoned 999 and a man walking his dog saw the lot. I'm ok and cars ok just needs a new rear bumper and bit of work to the boot, but bloody hell, some people get so irate!

You will get people saying similar things like the above but you know all that...mistakes are made and learn from them.
If the van driver followed me for that long I'd have to get out and see wtf his problem is...

To be fair, there are quite a lot of idiots drive like that. If I was you, I would drive really really slow while he is following me. And I will be heading to my local police station, then stop my car in the station and see what he wants!!! This may work....even though you are not Arnold Swarteneger!!

hmmmm

I find going really really slow when they are rite up your arse works the best.
Altho my m8 pissed someone off once by over-taking and at the next set of lights the guy got out of his car, walked up to my mates and punched him in the face through the open window!

I wont coment on the speeds, seen all too many videos of people walking out between parked cars....

tbh most van drivers are idiots but that doesn't justify the 70/80mph through town, i would just drive really slow just to p*** him off even more. It's what usually happens when i'm going over bumps they are right up my arse so i just slow down even more

Having read through all that, I can understand that the van driver was in the wrong for getting do close to you etc, but there was no reason to push the speed up that high in a residential area, if you'd hit someone, it would have been your fault not the van drivers. By the sounds of it, the same thing would have happened had you gone the standard 30mph but it would have been less dangerous.

When you overtook the van, was there a clear road in the other lane or did you have to pull in quickly? Its usually the pulling in too close that will p*** people off, not the actual overtaking.

I very much doubt you will get any sympathy from anyone on here.

What you did was very stupid and erratic. Speaking from experience - you are most definitely better off driving to the nearest police station no matter how far it is away (without putting your self and others at risk with reckless speeds). People tend to drive off when they see where you are heading.

There's nothing big or clever about doing them speeds through 30mph zone and pulling hand brake turns.

im hoping your regretting saying you were doing 70 through a town now. I mean you weren't really doing 70mph through a town. Were you?

There may be two sides to this story. The van driver may have been up your arse, but he may have got too close and shunted you. It may have been accidental (he was still driving like a wrist exerciser though, as were you).

A lot of people get steamed up about people overtaking them nowadays.

As for you, it was EXTREMELY irresponsible. Thank God no one got hurt.

Van drivers are often dodgy sorts, always be careful when driving like a dick round them.

Also, don't you think it's a bit stupid to be posting this up on a public forum? You never know who's reading.

Mate, i feel for you, I on the other hand believe I would have done the same thing, there are far too many clowns out there looking for trouble

I used to be one of those people that would speed up if someone was right up my arse, wheras now as a lot of people have said, I either slow right down or brake check them (my favourite being using my left foot so I get the brake lights on without slowing down, that usually does the trick)

I mean, it does sound as though he was driving like a right tard but it's still no excuse to be doing 70 in a 30

I've got a little nephew who has no fear of walking towards a road (he's only 1 and a half so doesn't even know what it is) if someone hit him doing that speed, then they wouldn't be walking away!
