VAG COM

Post by chickie_dee »

Hi there

Wondered if anyone can help me please.

I would like to buy the VAG COM CD and a cable so I can do a bit of self diagnostics! Can anyone please let me know where's best to get this from and what exactly I need.

I've looked on ebay but I want to make sure that I'm not just buying a cable or buying the wrong thing.

My partner has a Audi A4 02 plate - will the same VAG COM and cable work with this.

Forgive my ignorance, this is all fairly new to me and has arisen as the exhaust emissions warning light came on last night on my way home from work.

It's on again this morning, but the car is running fine and no misfires etc. Happened last year - blinking and I changed the HT leads - fixed it fine, but this time the light is not going off.

No "eggy" smells or black smoke! Anyone got any ideas?

I can't get to a garage for a while so will it be OK to drive the car as in the manual it says go to a delaer right away.

Thanks in advance!

VAG COM

Post by chickie_dee »

Hi

I filled up 2 days ago with Shell "basic" unleaded not the "Super" version. Have used this on and off for a while. Must admit it did take a lot of fuel, although the warning light only came on just as I got to the garage.

Been researching this and a lot of people seem to have issues with it coming on, going out, coming back on etc. I just worry I'm doing some damge.

Trying to get a mate to do an emissions test tomorrow so will see what that throws up.

However he doesn't have access to VAG COM to reset the lights if no faults are shown - so that's why I need the VAG COM so I can do it myself.

Thanks for your comments and sorry to be "dim" but the link in the thread seems to point me towards a lead and not the software.

Is it hard to install and use?

Thanks

Have you been to www.ross-tech.com you can get everything you need from there.

Im using version 409, with a usb lead. the software itself isnt hard to install and its fairly simple to use.

Ive checked my vag com and it will work with your audi fine.

My emmisions light has been on and off a lot the first time it was my rear lambda sensor, now its my camshaft timing and evap purge valve.

Hope this was help to you
