I got 17.5s with a car full of luggage, using standard 95 RON fuel, with brand new tyres that had never been on tarmac!

I got [email protected] MPH. The car is still totally standard (tuning) with a lot of extra weight in the boot. That was with 2 ppl in the car.

The car is a 1.4 8v 60BHP mk5.

Also knackered the gearbox that day.

Not sure what I'd get... I'll conservatively estimate about 25 seconds and maybe a 67mph terminal velocity. Got no real way of checking it out without help on the stopwatch/speedo and a reaaaaaaaly long tape measure.

What bothers me is some of the information on that chart. How does a 2CV get it's claimed 69mph top speed with only 9 BHP? And some nutter somewhere is still making NEW Fiat Pandas... with 60 horse underneath them? (The chassis would snap in two if you revved it and popped the clutch in first, surely...). And a shocking thing to note, maybe its just that Rover make dodgy automatics: the 75 Touring Auto, with 175 brake on tap, barely outpaces a SmartCar - or Morris Minor! Plus, not a one of them is a "ten second car"

...anyone fancy lending me a quarter mile long tape measure?

I remember there was a 1974 VW Beetle at the GTi festival in Santa Pod last year that did it in 9.98seconds. It had a 3ft exhaust protrusion poking out the back as well as nitrous injection and tuned out Chevy V8.
Obviously i didn't even bother to run. Dont want my baby stressin out. My friends Golf Mrk 3 Gti did it in 13.04 seconds! (its far from standard though)

Lupo GTi:
0-60mph = 7.7 secs
1/4 mile = 16.4 secs

Polo GTi:
0-60mph = 10.3 secs
1/4 mile = 18 secs

Eh?

Either the geezer driving the Polo couldnt drive or sommats not quite right!

Yeah, I thought that...

The 0-62 on the Polo is meant to be 8.7s

i find 18 seconds a bit slow, either my cars incredibly quick or summat but a mate of mines uno turbo posted 16.57seconds at usc last year and my polo is level with his to about 110mph, but then i do always run mine on optimax and its got no ice, and i never have a full tank of fuel. we should organise a group thrash so i can prove it hahahaha. just a little extra shell optimax fuel, theres an additive in it (like a performance enhancer) and after two days it becomes dead and works just like a normal unleaded fuel, i don't usually buy a full tank and keep just enough to last a day or so (bout ten quids worth) dunno if neone else has heard that?

Where the hell you getting 10.3 secs fromn lol?

Its 8.3 secs, but i'd say giving it full beans iv had mines to between 7-7.5 secs and i didnt even get a decent start. I think braking the 16.5 is decent for a standard GTI.....i'm hoping to brake into the 14's when im finished with her :)

Thread from the dead

I reckon it'd take a fair bit Phil to brake into the 14's.
