Silly Armrest

Post by daa709 »

Hey guys,

Bought an armrest off vagteam1 off ebay, and saw a few other people using the same style arm rest. I've now 'fitted' it, but its really wobbly.. Am I not using the screws properly at the back of the armrest? I just simply screwed them into the carpet as they were selftapping..

Anyone had experience with this?

Cheers

I'd expect it to wobble if it was just self tapped on.... best to investigate fitting one with proper fixings IMO

I used alot of wood and alot of glue trying to make it stronger but the plastic is really cheap and brittle so it breaks really easily.

The only remaining method i could see working was too complicated as it meant messing with the seat runners and stuff.

I was going to look into getting a plastics place to remake the base with a better quality plastic and to add extra mounts in. I dont think it would be feasable though.

I'm thinking about fixing it to the centre bit with a massive flat-tv-style wall screw.. Maybe two of these in the middle would do it.. Will have a try after work.

I took mine out, couldnt be doing with at as it also used to catch the hand brake!

With regards to the screws, i wouldnt screw anything into the floor of my car! u never know whats underneath it, how much load that bit of metal is taking

Just gotta go and install a printer for someone so will explain my theory in a min

Tomorrow I will post some pictures of my simple and clean solution to this problem.

It only took one V shaped metal piece, six screws, and 4 screws caps :P

Rock solid now :)

Top one!
Just done this in my car (although slightly different) and its worked a treat!!
Instead of using the bolts like yourself, i used self tapping screws that were slightly bigger than the metal holes on the other side!

Got the metal bracket form B&Q which cost £2.60! Top JOB!

Cheers

I just ended up using 6 self tapping screws into the two recessions on the bottom of the armrest. Works a treat now, and I can even sit on it if i wanted and it wont wobble.
