Go into device manager by right clicking on the my computer icon, then select the device manager tab, then find your cable driver, right click > properties and there should be com settings somewhere set it to comm1. Then make sure you have it set to comm1 in vag com as well and it should work hopefullly.

Hope that helps,

Is it worth me buying vag com and the cable? What exactly can you do with it?

You can check for fault codes, clear fault codes which can be helpful for passing your MOT if one of the lights happens to be on and it has other features which i'm not too sure about though.

vag com is a good idea but if you get curious and push a button you shouldnt its a lot of hassle to put right which has put me off this way but there is a fault code reader avaliable from gendan which you can read the fault and clear it. check it out
