looking to drop my car 60mm on springs, can i get away with the standard shocks or do i need uprated ones? bearing in mind im very poor and its costs double with shocks
I think it was h4ris that told me about the jackson tuning section on the club polo forum.
the guy sells springs and shocks for polo's and a load of other cars.
i think for the mk4 a set of springs/shocks will cost you £120 for a 60mm lowering kit, which is quite cheap tbh.
I am not sure what its like for the mk4 but i know with the mk5 that you can lower it 40mm on standard shocks but they will start to leak at somepoint, so 60mm would require new shocks.
I think it would be best to spend a bit more cash and get the shocks aswell.
what the pros and cons then lol? i heard coilovers give a really harsh ride? and to adjust them is it literally a case of twisting them or is it a bit more technical? lol at my noob ness
Adjusting them is just a case of twisting the rings using c spanners, i've found they can be quite annoying because it takes quite a bit of time just do twist it up or down a bit. would take approx 30mins to adjust all corners, since you have to jack your car up and take the wheel off to adjust.
My old polo had 40mm suspension kit which i'm still trying to sell cos the cars scrapped. Even with the full kit at only 40mm the ride was a bit harsh.
So from personal experience I wouldn't go 60 without shocks, could be costly if all the bushes, wishbones etc start failing.
i have got some -15mm springs for my 9n3, now after reading this post, will i need to upgrade the shocks for that? or should i be ok with it not being lowered much?
