Lowering my 9N : Need some advices before I go to shop...

Post by Lanttu »

Hi there.. I haven't wrote many messages to this forum, but I've been back there watching you. :)

Summer is almost over and I have done nothing to my Polo. I wanted to lower it so it doesn't look like some beetle which about to fly, but I found myself wondering different solutions to this.

Well. I have been offered several types of sets from 250 euros to 550 euros and mostly they took 35mm off... When I chatted with my car specialist while checking out why my front tires are weared off so badly from outside, he told me that there is a common problem on Polo which is that the camber of wheels doesn't work with 205/40R17 tyres. Can that be true?

Well I asked what happens if I lower it 35 mm and he said that it might get even worst than this and definetly the road sounds comes louder because of the tighter base.

Well.. Now I dont know what should I try next... I do want to lower my car but all this crossinformation that I receive pushes me to change the whole car...

Btw... What is the advantages of coilovers vs. normal coil + shocks?

Anything else about this stuff is welcome too.

if the outside edge is wearing that suggests your tracking needs doing.

I've never heard that a bigger wheel would make the tyres wear out quicker - if the circumference is the same then why should it? unless you've got a ridiculous offset on the wheels.

I've lowered mine as far as I dare go and the tyre wear is even. whoever is telling you that is misinformed. you want to toe it in ever so slightly if you go lower, IIRC.
