Grrrr warped front brake discs!

Post by Si_GTi »

I've been experiencing a little vibration/judder under braking recently so thought I'd ask my mechanic mate and see what he made of it.

At town speeds there is no issue but at 50mph+ when braking there is very noticeable juddering through the brake pedal and steering column! Also at rolling speeds, say 5-10mph, you can hear a little squeak-squeak-squeak-squeak from the front offside wheel as the car rolls forward.

Looks like I have a warped front disc on the driver's side! Oh well, new front discs it is

Two questions:

1. The current brake pads are 50% worn, am I best off to replace these on the front at the same time as replacing the discs?

2. is 18 months a reasonable lifespan for front discs (this is how old they are)?

Your feedback, as always, is valued.

Cheers

More money then... £25 each for the OEM front discs (ordered and arriving Tuesday) and probably somewhere in the region of £40-45 for the front Black Diamond pads.

Anyone know a good place to get the pads? My original pads came from 2modified but they don't have any thing listed in stock.

Cheers

Give John at call (2modified) he got mine the other day.

I'm sure I've got my old discs around some where - if your looking for a cheap fix (they still had alot of life in them!)

Si, If the pads have worn evenly and no scoring etc is on the face of them, I personally wouldn't change them if you are selling the car within 6 months. If you are trading it in even more of a reason not to change them.

If you do decide to though, I bought a set of Black Diamong pads from europerformance a couple of months ago. It was the cheapest place I found incl. delivery.
