I drive a late 2001 model Polo GTI 16v. My central locking pump has failed - the PCB has got wet and burned out
VW want £180 plus VAT plus £70 ph labour to fit a new one. I am wondering whether any of you guys know where to get one cheaper. Mine is an 8-pin model with part no. 6NO 962 257 A. On eBay I can only find 10/11/12 pin models with slightly different part nos. Will those work?
Any of the mk4/mk5 polo central locking pumps will fit, it's extremely easy to replace it, you just unplug old one and put new one in, it's underneath the first aid kit in the boot.
I'm pretty sure there's one for sale on CP
Hi guys, thanks for all your comments. So I take it for example a 12 pin pump will work even though I have an 8 pin one? I guess the extra pins just wont get used.
I have replaced the pump on my car, the car now locks but is not unlocking. I have tested the circuit, it is getting power to lock but not to unlock. Any ideas why this might be?
Well. I have got a new pump off of eBay. £20. Thing is the air hose connector is slightly different to my old pump. I think I can get round it by cutting the connector off the hose and just pushing the host directly onto the pump.
Though the main problem is that the arrangement of the electrical contacts is different to my old pump. My old pump is an 8-pin pump. I couldn't find an 8-pin one on eBay so I got an 11-pin version. I'm thinking I can just move one of the pins in the connector thats attached to the car, then they will all make contact with the new pump if I move just one pin. Would this work? Should I try and find an 8-pin pump instead?
Cheers.
[EDIT]
Well I tried the above and it didn't work. Can't get the pins out of the connector. So I guess I am on the lookout for an 8-pin (with the same pin arrangement as mine) or a 12-pin pump.

Hey guys,
I have now finally replaced the pump on my car but I am now having the same problems. I can't unlock the car via the remote but it deactivates the alarm Its locks fine with the remote and the door lock/unlock buttons work fine on the drivers door.
Mine still not resolved. I did however speak to an autoelectrician who believes its the comfort module, which is apparantly up in behind dash somewhere. It also sounds expensive
I'm contemplating ripping out all the air solenoids and running the system off of electric solenoids. That way i can get one of those cool flip keys as well and tap into the factory alarm.
