strugling to drop down into 3rd and 4th gear

Post by Kelk11 »

when am slowing down and droping back down through the gears its started to get harder to engage into 4th from 5th, 3rd from 4th but there is no problem when going up the gears. there is no funny noises so dont think its the gearbox and is sumthin which has gradually got worse. occasionly at high revs it may crunch getting into 5th. car has just reached 60k and not aware of any gearbox or clutch changes. any ideas what this could be and any1 else experienced it?

if your clutch pedal bitting point has changed from normal you could try adjusting your clutch cable to see if it is any better. it could also be the bush on the end of the gearchange cables maybe worn so i would check for excess movement on the gearstick if it does move excessivley adjusting the clutch cable wont really make that much difference so they will have to be replaced. hope this helps.

I had/have this exact same problem...

I have replaced the gearbox oil with 2.7L of Castrol SMX-S....Which has helped a lot..

I have also adjusted my clutch cable as much as I can, which helped a bit for a while...

Im suspecting the peddel box in my car has gone, thus not allowing the clutch to disengage fully on gearchanges...

Need to book the car into the stealers to get it looked at really

How can you tell if your car has gearchange cables :?:

I was having this problem & eventually after changing the gearbox oil, having the clutch pebble box looked at & thinking that the clutch was on
it way out, my brother adjusted the clutch cable ( even though i had been told the adjustment was OK ) which sorted the problem out :D

I will be changing the cable soon, had no problems since. :D
