hello!

Post by mikegti »

hi people, I just got a gti in december :D , I've been reading these forums and now I'm worried about a few things! hope someone can help! I've had a search but still unsure....

my clutch pedal feels fairly stiff - quite a bit heavier than on my old car (fiesta *cough* -the cable broke on that and once it was replaced it was loads better) ... would changing this worn cable avoid the expensive pedal box problem?

another thing is the gearstick twitching in 4th when coming on/off the power, was this a cheap thing to sort?

lastly  , my coolant gauge only works occaisonally - i'm gonna try and check if its the sensor, but this doesnt have any input to the ecu does it?

I love the car but just wanna make sure its running right!!

cheers

mike

Mike firstly Welcome to the forum.

If you look under this heading Polo GTi or click here http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/v ... php?t=2146

Then all should be here. But if all else fail here we go.

First of all the clutch feeling stiff has bee a big issue with the Polo GTi and your not alone mine was like this. Changing the cable won't help, if the car is under warranty then you can get the clutch fixed. The problem is the pedal box has a fault and the mountings break after a while, Alot of VW garages have replaced nearly all owners clutch, pedal box and cables and cured the problem. (And you shouldn't get charged as it a manufacturing fault)

Your car's gearstick twitching in 4th is something else the GTi has a little quirk is that the gear linkages need tightening up. This won't cost much just VW getting you booked in. But watch the gear about a month after as it might do it again, mine has :(

I not sure on the coolant gauge but maybe one of the other forum members can help you out here.

Anyway hope this helps and look forward to seeing you at meetings.

:)

Hi and welcome!

The GTi clutch is pretty heavy anyway compared to "normal" cars, but if it starts to squeek, print out the details in the post at the top of the GTi section and take it to your dealership asap (I'm hoping your car is still under warranty?)

It sounds like your linkages need tightening up, like Courtney just said... Mine needed this (infact mine need adjusting again as the gears are getting a bit difficult to engage at times...)

Also sounds like you need a new green temperature sender. £24 all in for the part. It has 2 outputs: one to the dash and one to the ECU. On mine, it was the side going to the ECU that was knackered, which caused power loss, cutting out etc etc.

Hope this helps?
