rxII bolt removal

Post by andyniceday »

i want to split my 16's down when i take them off soon, is there a special tool for removing the bolts?

i dont wanna use the wrong size allen key and end up stripping the heads! What has everyone else used to split them?

I havnt done this myself..

but they are large torques bolts I believe....There is a really good set of them from the halfords pro range...one of them should fit...

Make sure there is no dirt in the caps of the bolts and that you tap the driver bit in with a hammer to make sure that you dont damage the bolt...

I guess the cruicial thing is to avoid over tightening them when you put it back together as the alloy is very soft!

There is a tutorial in the DIY section, if I remember right. When we did mine I got a mate to take the bolts out. You need an impact driver to essentially jolt the bolts initially when taking them out, otherwise you'll round them off. Not soo good ;) Have fun :D

VM8 wont get you very far. Its a MultiSpline Bit Size 8 - laser make a set which screwfix inadvertantly sell

When i split mine, i sprayed all of the bolts with a good lashing of wd40 to ease any corrosion underneath.

Removal was simply with a breaker bar - just dont put too much pressure on them, as they can snap. Small, gentle moves to get them going :)

Titanium bolts will snap trust me if under too much pressure!

probably best to spray them with WD40 (as mentioned) a day or two before. let it really soak in!

Splits the center alloy from the polished rim so you can have them refurbished properly.

Yeah, they finished on 22nd at lunch time, picked them up last night and now each wheel is in two pieces. Got a nice shade of grey in mind for them, but your chromium looked sweet, would look perfect with my satin silver. Decisions decisions!
