Post by bristolgeezer »

Bloody gearbox is shafted :x

went to go out at 4 and its whining like a beauty in all gears and sounds rough as, so i drove round the block and parked it back up,

gonna have to ring around tomorrow getting some quotes on the gearbox, what would you guys recommend getting a new box put in or get the current one reconned?

gonna have to post pone powerflow too :(

cheers,

ash.

I'd only get the box reconditioned. I don't think any 'new' ones are available, and wouldn't trust a company who say they have reconditioned ones off the shelf.

Sorry to hear that, hope you get it fixed wihtout too much time off the road / expense :( .

Sorry to hear about the gearbox. Take it to glouster road gearboxes and they will put a recon box in.

I bought a genuin clutch from vw which cost about £90. Gave it to them and the apparently the flywheel needed skimming and did the job lot.

I think to supply and fit the new clutch and gearbox costed about £750

If you just want the box doing it's £500.

Mine was done six months ago and it's still sweet.

Give them a call.

Dont go to bristol transmisions.

i gave them a call and they wanted a hell of alot of money, 580 plus vat for the recon, 200 plus vat if the case was damaged and 180 plus for labour!

its being done at mr clutch, 910 including vat and labour.

even more grrrrrrrrrrrrr ing now

was promised the car back today but when they went to fit the gearbox the company that rebuilt it had used the wrong bell housing!!

any guesses who the culprits were?........... bristol transmissions!

they had my old gear box there with them so surely they'd notice the difference?! not happy now, even the guy from the garage re-fitting the box couldnt understand how they'd got that mixed up!

i'm hoping for it back monday so powerflow can now have it monday evening.
