Insurance with unusual model

Hi Folks,

Got a bit of an issue. Everything was fine with my insurance last year but this year it turns out that the insurance companies cant find my number plate and they don't recognise my car.

I have a 2003 (03) VW Polo 1.4 TDI Comfort line. It seems it was bought from an Irish dealer and imported directly by the first owner who had it for 4 years. Unfortunately the insurance company don't recognise the comfort as a model (it was previously and wrongly labelled an S on last years policy).

Now im trying to get my renewal but as its not on their drop down list it is proving problematic. Has anyone had this experience?

I can't imagine it being too dis-similar to a UK model. The way round it might be to see which UK model it seems closest to and declare any extra bits that it might have as 'MODS'.

Altho' you might want to try and use a specialist insurer?

The only other thing I can think of is to contact VW UK and see what they say? I really can't see this model having something that would be far an above in excess of an SE or even Twist?

just do your insurance over the phone then you don't have to worry about drop down box's. if you dont accept it then declare it as an import

Just out of interest did you pay less for the car being that it was an import?

Insurance companies are sometimes funny about insuring imports as they are worth a lot less (due to them being cheaper in the first place I guess) and because often the parts are harder to source (obviously not in your case).
