mk4 golf idle problem

Hi all,

My girlsfriend has a mk4 golf 1.6 8v AKL-engine code.

The car idle's like sh*t. It hunts and goes up and down when it wants and turning the steering and pressing brakes causes it to throw a wobbly.

Took it to my local vw specialist and he scanned it using vagcom and it came up MAF fault. So he put a new one on and the fault was still there [:s] . So he put another one on and funny enough the fault was still there and would not clear. He decided to clean the throttle body and reset it. Also he cleared all learner fault codes.

The fault for the MAF is still there and it will not clear. Idle is still the same.

He suggests I need a new throttle body and possibly a new ECU.[:s]

What do you guys think?

it sounds more like an idle control valve to me.
