Alternator woes...ruined UDs

Post by Rupy »

Well my alt. has packed in...it packed in on the M1 on the way to UDs :(

I've been trying to find out what one i need to replace it. I know it's a 90amp one i need but i dont know which one. Its either valeo or bosch.

I dont have a jack to check it out from below the car. Anyone know how i can work it out without jacking the car up...or what the PNs are??

Just had a look at vagcat.com and prices are around 500 euros! That's stupidly expensive.

I rang VW and they said they're either £190 (Valeo) or £210 (Bosch) or i can go to GSF or ECP and get it for £90 and old alternator. Thing is no one can tell me if the Valeo and Bosch ones have the same mounting points etc? ie. does it matter which i get in the end?!
