mk2 polo 1.8 gti
i've been offered a mk3 golf gti, 1.8 8v, and i've been told it should fit in a mk2 polo. anyone heard of this being done before and apperntly the polo box bolts upto the lump. any help and advise or laughing is welcome. cheers spyk

I know this is very late, but in case it's still of any use to you or anyone else thinking about doing this, the engine will not fit and the gearbox will not mate up to it. The 1.6/1.8 engines are tall blocks whereas the 1.05/1.3 units in the polo are short blocks. Hence the short blocks and the long blocks will fit in the golf which has a much larger engine bay, but only the short blocks fit in the mk2 polo. Also, the gearboxes are a different type between the two types of engine block.. from memory I think the polo uses an 085 code and the golf tall blocks use a 020 code.. although it's been a while since I looked into these things!
