hit rock bottom

Post by johnbrennan »

hey here it goes, get ready i was out in my 1.4 8v 6n polo silver have to uploads some images cause it looked great, apart form the crap gearboxes and shody windows it was grand until last nite were my indicator stock stuck on and i was left with my full beams on and the smell of burining from behind the steering wheel was unbelievable. even when the key was out they were still on. then my gear box went for a second time and the head gasket is away i think as blue smoke was flying out of the exhaust lol. is it even worth fixing i mean i was looking at a 1.4 16v 6n and hopefully they dont have the same gear box problems are they any better? i could use mine for parts?

sounds like u might have just bought a bad polo there m8. tbh ur probably best just getting a new polo. Most Parts will just transfer right over, ie lights, panels as for the engine, chances are they dont. But I dont have a 16v only a 8v maybe someone whos had both knows a little more.

Maybe Noz i think i remember him saying hes had both a 8v and 16v before

The joys of owning a 6n :D

My 8v had window issues nearer its death (car crash) and thats it. Loved the featherlight clutch and gearbox was never an issue.

Unfortunetly my 16v has far bigger issues. Gearbox on its way out causing the engine to run rough. I think 16v's have more gearbox problems, which makes other parts prone to faults ie clutch, pedal box etc etc. The biggest problem is 16v boxes are rare to get hold of therefore making them more expensive.

In terms of body and interior everything is tranferable. Mechanicals are different though, however gearboxes from 8v's fit 16v's althoguh ratio's are different.
