The bearings are pressed into the drums, which if you haven't got the right tools are a pain to get out. Your best bet would be to get some new drums and bearings and using a suitable size drift to press new bearings into new drums.

I HAD THE SAME!!!!
IT TOOK ME A COUPLE HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!
I used a screw driver and a hammer and tapped the bearings out... you have to be patient ... but is easy!!!... very easy!!!!
they are £12 for GFS... (GERMAN FRENCH SWEEDISH)... not the £39 the mot garage wanted to charge me!

The wheel bearing is a taper fit, so it will losen or tighten depending on how tight you crank the hub bolt up (both sides are right hand thread). They don't actually need to be that tight. Mine was easy to get out when checking my rear drums over.

I have half done her now, lets just say i am glad i caught it then, the bearing had got so hot in there i had to get a good puller in there to pull her out, any longer and i think it would have welded itself to the hub!!
But apart from that it is quite easy, like you say just tap the old bearing and carriers out of the drum!!
thanks for your help!!
