polishing rim, advice needed

Post by Kelk11 »

i bought myself a set of 16 rxii's last week which were in bad need of a refurb so ive split the rims and sanded all the way down to 1200 grit on the first wheel.

so this is the outcome also getting centres powder coated.

If you want I can send you the PDF file of the DIY guide. PM me your email address if you do.

If you've worked up through all the stages of wet and dry up to 1200, then the only thing left to do is get yourself a decent metal polish like Solvol Autosol. Few applications of that should produce good shine to them.

is the finish much better using a drill with polishing mop and compound? or is autosol by hand just as good? am i right in thinking that belgom polish will keep it looking shiney and sealed?

the finish isnt really better with a mop its just faster at getting you to that finish. i used a mop with autosol to finish mine and they ended up uber shiny! as for keeping the shine i just autosol them every couple of weeks by hand.

Those look great for a refurb, not sure on how to keep them that way but for those with a polished lip. A luster pad works extremely well, gets them back to the original state.

Im in the same process as u are and are doin the rims again, im goin to clear coat mine after polishing them, no clear coat is ment for polished lips but it sticks to the polished rim anyway, also do u need to reseal the split rim as its a two piece rim??? like every torque???

i'm not going to clear coat mine as i dont want it to peel like they do so will just have to polish them every now and then, regarding sealing them ive heard a non acidic silicone sealant will do. dont know if anyone can shed any more light on this?
