Low revs

Guys,

My car has just been serviced but have noticed that before it would do 30mph in 5th gear no problem but now the revs drop below 1,500rpm and so starts struggling slightly. It is noticeable in other gears that the revs aren't as high as they should be. There is no problem with the stationary idle.

Does anyone know what could be wrong? Any help appreciated!

30 mph in 5th is a big ask unless perhaps you have a 6 speed?

I think 30mph on my gearbox is less than 1000rpm. but you haven't said if you have a petrol or diesel?

there is a lot of moisture in the air recently which could effect your torque.

what did they do at the service? could be a bad batch of fuel.

Cheers David, it's a petrol 5 speed.

The thing is I'm sure it used to do 30mph in 5th before, there are other instances where I could keep it in 3rd round a slow corner but now have to drop it down to 2nd as it's struggling. Was a normal 50k service.

I have only noticed it since filling up with Shell's finest on Sunday so you could be right about the fuel. Will keep an eye on it.

Personaly, I would not try to drive at 30MPH in 5th gear - basically for two reasons, 1) you have no control of the car - ie you can't just accelerate out of trouble and 2) these gearboxes have reduced torque "tolerance" at the higher ratios - so you will end up stuffing the gearbox even with a lowly 1.4 petrol engine. I understand that you are just making a point between pre-service/post-service but I'd avoid actually operating the car like that.

BTW I can't comment as to why this reduced O/P has come about!

RUM4MO you are correct this is just to explain the problem. I would normally choose 4th or usually 3rd if i want to accelerate quickly.
