1.4 Engine conversion anyone ?

Post by hardhitter »

Just spotted this on ebay:

Good chance to get bigger cc for your N/A Mk 3.
I can imagine this working very well in a GT. 8)

Basicly it's an easy conversion, the "small" polo 6n and Golf mk3 engines are based on the same blocks that were used in de 86c types.
there all based on the 030 engine. That means that all mounting points are the same, so basicly it's old engine out new one in :) even the old inlet en outtake manifold will fit.

Shame it's not much cheaper, otherwise I'd have had it like a shot!

Would've been nice with my old GT injection system to tide me over until the G40 is rebuilt. Not that it matters, hoping to get a GT block and head at the weekend which should finally get me mobile.

@Gilex - the inlet and exhaust manifolds from the Mk3 Polos fit to the newer engines, so in theory you could run GT Digifant injection on a 6N Polo. Are there any people you know who have done this - does it give you more power? I ask because my mother has a 1.4 8v 6N, and I have GT Digifant injection lying around...

Mk4 1.4 8v is 60bhp, so only 5bhp more than a Mk3 1.3. I think it has more torque though, and you've got the obvious advantage of a newer engine.

I'd hope with running it on GT injection you're likely to see at least 75bhp though as the compression ratio's higher than the GT and the 6N's engine management is likely to be designed with fuel economy and emissions in mind. It's only conjecture on my part though, I really don't know for sure - that's why I was askign Gilex if anyone had done it.

it's an 88 Steili with an 1.4l 8v (orginal 60BHP)
