GTI issues

Post by MarcoPolo »

Hello

We've had our 06 GTI for about 7 months now, and was on 23,000 miles when we got it (from a VW main dealer).

It's now on 30K and over the past 7 months, it's developed the following faults:-

- Nearside front wheel bearing shot

- Clonks from nearside front suspension - suspect worn top mount bearing or ARB drop links / bushes

- Engine jolts uncomfortably when changing gear - suspect knackered dog bone mount or dual mass flywheel.

- Driver's side door has dropped - rusting the paint where it rubs on the sill.

Are these faults normal for such a young car, or have we bought a Lemon?

sounds goosed to me heard of door pin failures though, should be coverd under warranty, my top mount has gone on the n\s but i suspect its due to my coilovers LOL , you will know if it is cos it will clunk when you dry steer or at low speeds steering! Other than that mines been fine few little bits and bats nothin major and it gets some spirited driving!

Cheers!

Door's been sorted, new hinges and some paintwork.

Rear engine mount confirmed as knackered and replaced. The VW technician said it's a known weakness on the Polo 1.8T, so I might look into some upgraded options.

Only dissapointment is the nearside wheel bearing (typically) didn't make any noise whilst they had it, so they've put it down to tyre / road noise.

Clonking appeared to be related to the worn engine mount.

So the Polo's a good un again
