loud metal on metal scraping noise

Post by johnbretch »

hope someone can help - got a 2003 03 1.4 polo that has developed a temperamental metal on metal sound coming from 'underneath'. On 2 occasions it sounded like the exhaust was dragging on the floor, but when i checked below nothing. Engine runs fine and gears change ok. I'll call the AA tomorrow to give it a look over for anything loose. Just wondered if anyone had had the same prob? :?:

Could be the console bushes are worn, had this on mine it only made a noise when pulling away from a standing start. If it is the concole bushes you want to replace them with the Seat Ibiza Cupra solid ones

Check your shock absorbers ;) I believe I experienced that same metal on metal sound that first appears to be something wrong with the exhaust.

It ended up being the damn right-back shock. Replaced both back ones, and everything got just fine!

Cheers.

My bet is the brakes - a small stone has caught in between the brake guard and the disc. Happened to me and the symptoms are the same. Every now and then a metal on metal noise occurred. See if it increases / decreases with the speed of the car.
