But i am back

i have been working really hard at work as its january exams but its quieting down a bit now. have i missed anything

i have still got the polo but there something not quite right i am very disapointed wih the performance seems to be holding back for some reason and you can feel it spluttering at about 50-60 can be ok in top end but still not as fast as it should be i only ever had 90 out of it and it took ages to climb to that (and no its not my driving)

Well a good service might put it right as its cutting out in the mornings after its started so i think its somethign to do with fuel filter or something like that any one had these probs b4?

Could need a good service and if you have an K+N induction kit that can bog it down over time. Extra cold feed?

Could be lots of things spark plugs, ignition leads and coil etc

Maybe an ECU reset may also help after a service/air filter change, and some Optimax!

yeah i have a k&N induction kit seems in good nick tho

yeah i read sumwhere that the fitting of a k&n induction kit is really for spring,summer,sutumn use where the outside air temperature is generally higher, cos at the mo mine takes an age to warm up!

i was gonna say plugs ... until i noticed the letters tdi!

i've heard the fuel filter needs changing quite often so might be the best place to start?

If I remember right, you don't have a TDI any more do you?

If it's a petrol car, change the fuel filter, Temperature Sensor (the one that plugs into the side of the engine), spark plugs and possibly leads.

That "should" sort it!

i tell you what my MkII 1272cc engine has never once not starred or given me any problems even with the abuse i've thrown at it

Yeah i dont have a td anymore just use the smae sig off my old sites thats all sorry for the confusion.
So another words a service will put it right then??

As for the k&N inductin kit yeah some one told me that too well we shall find out in the summer what the story is with that .

What's your top end speed like right now?

Funny, the amount of stick I give the little bleeder and it still comes back for more. Apart from carbon in the dizzy (too many revs compared to the road speed

) all the complaints have been unrelated to thrash. Castle Brom to Northampton on the M6/A14 (and the return journey..) full welly in 4th *all the way* apart from the island separating the two roads, and muchos low gear action each end on the surface, and nary a complaint (apart from my wallet at the pumps). I'll have to see what the trip to/from Bournmouth is like as well, if moderation is needed after 90 minutes or so (180 odd miles - M6, M42, M40, A43, M3, A31, A338, hardly any surface level junctions apart from halfway down the 43), but that will probably require a tankful each way and very strong trousers in case of pistons or belts throwing in the towel

(Did I mention it reaches 5k before it reaches 90?)
Bournemouth to Bangor, or the Lake District, even more fun. Definately "Midnight Missions" though or the traffic will drive you mad. Seeing just *how* far a tankful will take you when showing no mercy (halfway up the wrong side of Shap I wouldnt bet).

Ahem. Threadjack. My apologies. Where was I.

The only thing seems to be that the "top speed" (on average, or perhaps aggregate considering it takes about a week to get there) is down maybe 1 or 2mph since I bought it. And that's probably due to extra weight (toolkit etc, my stomach, road salt) and strain on the alternator (stereo..) anyway. Occasionally seems a little hesitant when cold or being asked for too much "too soon" but will go happily as ever when given some good warm revs.

Check all your filters, oil, plugs and leads are fine, then wait for late evening. Find out where all the cruisers are heading to burn out, and go the other way. Trundle round in a car park for a while to get it up to maybe 75 degrees, then yomp onto the motorway. Go a couple junctions one way being merciless with the gears, then come back the other reaching top as soon as possible (like, 25mph - careful how you rejoin the m/way) and see how each feels like. Full throttle both times (try 1/2 as well if you wish and have time). Be wary of the fuzz, cameras, other drivers, road conditions etc. What speed do you reach, what does it feel like? (Don't forget to try holding in 4th if you have a 5-speed and an SPi engine)
