was in traffic today and i put my pedal down n went up to about 2500 revs and let go of accelerator as traffic didnt move and instead of the car idling at just below 1000 it stayed at roughly 1500 revs and wouldnt go down

any ideas what the problem may be? after a while it went down, but it kept doing this.. as i went above 1500 mark it would come down to around 1400 n stay there for a few secs and then go down to just below 1000 where it should be

throttle body needs cleaning?

Have you cleaned the TB? It sounds possibly more than that, but it's always a good start.

Not sure myself. give it a clean though and see how it feels. Regardless of if it's fixes it or not, it'll drive alot better!

Yeh but there's absolutely no need, it's dead easy mate. Can you locate the airbox on your car? take that off and it exposes the throttle body,

This is what it looks like, dirty and clean:

To clean it, get hold of some 'carb cleaner', it's sold in halfords. Spray it onto a cloth and clean the TB and butterfly valve. then start up the car, and get some to pump the accelerator, up to about 70k and down again, constantly (you'll see the valve opening). Whilst they are doing this, spray around a third of the can into the TB. When finished leave the car running, and take it for a good drive after.

you can spray the wynns stuff into the throttle body. Its mainly petrol and xylene based which is combustible anyway plus it is designed to be sprayed in as it will clean all the insides out

Rev it up and down to open up the butterfly so you can spray inside. When finished spraying and leaving the car running, take it for a good run after.

It could be the classic coolant temp sensor problem?
