Coilovers or Lowering springs?

Post by Whos Adam? »

Looking to eventually get my 9n Lowered. Nothing drastic, But i have no idea what the difference is between coilovers or springs.

Performance? Quality? Looks?

Cheers, adam :D

You'll be able to get alot lower with coilovers. With suspension kits, it generally is you get what you pay for. If you buy cheap coilovers, they;re likely to be quite harsh, same as cheap springs. More expensive kits would be alot mor comfortable.

Although the £200 kits you can get from eBay are rather good for the price.

how low do you want to go?
if you just want a small drop then go for springs. i used to have 50mm springs and without shocks it was a bit bouncy, but with shocks i think it would've been ok. the drop was nice to.
i'm currently on coilovers (the one tim mentioned for £200 of ebay and tbh if you get them you can't go wrong with them as you can raise the car/lower the car to your needs.

with 16" you can go that little bit lower than 17" but 17" can look cool.

Well that's the thing, I'm not 100% sure, possibly 30-40mm

I think i am gonna put a set of 16's on it and see how it looks.
Just a massive amount to learn. Just used one of the tyre calculators and that made me a little worried. but 16's should be fine.

Don't want to over do it.

Your opinions on the following wheels would be greatly appreciated ;)

I know its a very personal decision but i really need a hand!

oh right! so 17's are an option now, just gotta decide which i prefer

ive got a mate who works at halfords, gonna wheel a 16 and 17 out and see what it looks like next to car.

I think thats the best way to find out what i like the look of most.

(sorry about double post :) )

You want 40 profile tyres tho not 45 ie, 205/40/17

I even got 195/40/16 on my 16's :D

I like the 2nd set.

on the 4th set, I'll warn you they're a bugger to keep clean - I have a set of them in 19" on my astra and the little nooks n crannys do my head in.
