Reliable high mileage GTI's

Post by avfcnutter »

I seem to have noticed that many of the problems that usually happen with the gti happen between 50,000 and 90,000 miles, so do you think i would be safe to purchase a high mileage GTI or would it be a bag of tricks?

Dont forget that.... people with problems will always post.... those who have no problems never post...

Although the GTI is renowned for having some issues.... most of them proberably dont!!!

If its in good condition...been cared for.... I cant see what difference its age would make to be honest... Just make sure its had cambelt/clutch/gearbox etc done

Be careful what you post on the internet...... If you are going to be doing the most miles in it..... then insurance companies dont like it if you are not the main insured driver...... Not that im saying its a bad idea... nudge nudge...

You can have just as much fun in a 6N polo... I started off in a 1996 1.6GL.... Insurance was a hell of a lot cheaper than the GTI.... and its still got enough poke to provide some amusement!

I was over £800 when I was 20. High mileage isn't a problem engine wise, just listen for the gearbox. Apart from the odd niggle mine has been problem free in over 2 years

Try Bell insurance, and add as many experienced drivers as you can to the policy.
