Fault on crash sensor & cooling switch

Post by pepitopinoy »

My airbag lights on the dash and VW say these are the problems(subject). They qoute its £193 to replace the crash sensor & £121 to do the cooling switch.

Any of you guys who has replaced this before and just want to know roughly how much it cost you? Is it an easy job to replace these?

Thanks in advance.

Im not sure of your mechanical knowledge mate, but I wouldnt mess with anything on the airbag circuit if you dont know what your doing. Dealership will lock the airbag computer to prevent any mis-haps dentonating the airbags. My advice, leave to the pro's :D [/code]

Thanks for the reply!

I might just ask a specialist garage to do it for me if they can and hope for a cheaper price.

But if anyone has done a repair on these things, i would be very glad to know how much they have spent.

And 1 thing, my MOT is getting near, will my car fail because the airbag lights on the dash?

Thanks again!

My advice, obtain the sensors yourself from ebay/GSF or whatever, and get them fitted by and independant.

My car had a failing crank sensor, VW wanted £60 to plug it into diagnostics, £51+vat for the sensor and £140+vat to fit it

I paid a local garage £10 to do a ecu scan, £20 for the sensor off ebay (new and genuine VW) and I will fit it myself.

Thanks for the advice!

I have already visited 2 VW specialist garage and unfortunately, they both don't want to work on my crash sensors. They both told me that they have a small computer and it requires a big computer to setup the crash sensor ones fitted. They are pointing me on to VW to have it done. but one of the garage sympathise with me and has offered to fix the cooling switch at a very low price as a regular costumer.(regular costumer means im always there as my car is always broke)

I paid £82 for the diagnostics, and they say theres another problem with my vent fan that needs to be diagnose again for another £81.96. In total, the outstanding works that they have put on my car at the moment since last week amounts to nearly £900.

Thank you again everyone.

Need help again. I am totally upset.

VW has just replaced the airbag crash sensor and now, they say i also need to replace the airbag control unit for £350..... I ask them why this problem not on the diagnostic report and they told me that it comes out after replacing ng crash sensor.

My question is, is this much harder to replace than the crash sensor? Well I don't have plan to do it myself but still wondering that i will be turned down again by VW specialist garage.

Thanks again
