what to use on my wheels?!

Post by ben3486 »

Gave the car a quick clean yesterday after about 3 weeks and a few trips up and down the m4. Lots of muck, and lots of salt and grit. The lips on my wheels look absolutley whack now with black and greyish kinda dots all over them and a nice black mark all the way around where the center and the lip meet. Its pretty stubourn too. any products/techniques you guys can recommend!? cheers

What finish have your wheels got?

Seats squeaking is a common problem. Just get some White lithium grease on the adjusters in the seat and on the runner and it should all help :)

If your wheels are in good shape physically with no stone chips or scratches (and they are painted/lacquered, then Wonder-Wheels is hard to beat. Just make sure you wash it all off afterwards.

I've also found WD-40 gets some stubborn marks off too.

I'll have to get down halfrauds and have a look for it. Why does it have to have no stone chips or scratches? is it pretty corrosive stuff?! Its only got to tide me over for a short while as I have a set of 16" RXII splits coming in January. :D

Autoglym Clean Wheels is also very good. used it on brown - yes brown from brakedust wheels earlier! and they are sparkling now :)

Like if you fold the seat forward, all the mechanisms left and right, and the adjuster for the back position - know what i mean?

Yeah i think i know what u mean....i'll just put the seats forward and lube up every thing i can see haha.

I used the auto glym stuff befor on my mini. worked well but hurt like hell when you got into a cut on your hands lol

I wasnt sure if the lips were polished or not. so wasnt sure if i should get a metal polish or just a cleaner.

Autoglym is too much effort.

For best results use Megs all purporse cleaner, 4:1 ratio with water. Or Megs hot rims.

When using either doing the following:

Spray it on, and leave soak for 3-5 mins, respraying every 2 mins. Then wash them with your shampoo and sponge.

To stop them getting like that, use Poorboy's wheel sealant, or at least collinite wax to protect them. Throw as many coats of it down as you can be bothered to.

Once applied, If you take care of them and clean them often, you'll never get the stubborn spots 8)

If there's still spots that aren't budging, get some decent clay on it.

the wheel wonder stuff isn't for split rims!? LOL so I gave that a miss and got auto glym. Got most of the dirt off. Got into all the nice tricky corners with an old electric tooth brush. Looks great around the bolts etc now LOL. Clay seems like a awsome idea. I have some left over megs clay but no quick detailer. Think it'd be ok to use with out a lube? Next to where the face and lip meet I have a lot of black marks all they way around the rim. How can I tell if theyre polished or laqured too?

Use water as lube mate, just spray it on like you would with the QD. The megs clay might not cut it though, it's not that great.

Have you got a picture of your wheels?
