FAO anyone who's running an amp for a sound install...

As above...where did you route the power cable through the firewall? I know of a small grommet just below the glovebox, however on cars with AC, there's already something going through there which makes is tight. Allegedly, if you remove the wipers and scutle panel, there's another gromment which is used for the bonnet release cable on LHD cars...anyone used this? Or, is it safe to just make a small hole in the firewall with a drill? I'll be running a minimum of 4 gauge cable although may decide to run 2 gauge instead/in the future. Got a 4 x ~80 W RMS amp for for front components and might possibly add a ~200W RMS amp in the future for an 8" sub, so not really sure what cable to use...

i didn't read anything you wrote after the first line but the gromet under the glove box is what i used. use a screqdriver to open it up a bit and force the wire through. simples

I don't have an amp fitted but I do know alot of people use that grommet.

The lhd bonnet release is not under the scuttle if you look in the top right of you engine bay you will see it, looks like a stepped cone

I don't think drilling through the fire wall is a good idea.

Chewy, yeah I'm not too keen on drilling through the firewall either. I know what you mean by the "cone" in the engine bay, that's where it goes through, but then it has to go through a grommet in the firewall which is only accessable once you remove the wipers and scuttle tray if you get what I mean.

How hard is it to remove the wipers / scuttle tray?

They are not that hard iirc the wipers are 14mm then the scuttle just clips into the bottom of the windscreen

Do you think I'd get away without using a torque wrench (seeing as I don't have one) whilst refitting the wipers, and just tightening till they're...erm...tight?

No problem, when you come to put the scuttle on use a little washing up liquid in water to lube where the scuttle clips in to the screen, makes life a lot easier

Might ask VW how much a new scuttle panel is as the tinny rubbery bit on the right hand side looks like it's ready to fall off...not really a major problem though.
