Is the 04 (65bhp) engine belt or chain driven??

Im pretty certain its chain, but when does it need replacing?? Some people hae said around 50k others have said a chain should never need replacing.

The car is due a service and its the 50k service. What will need changing??

Thanks

Which engine?

a chain should last longer than 50k,
That sounds about right for a belt

its 1.2 12v

Just that sometimes when you first start it up it makes a wierd noise. But not all the time. It could be starter motor or the chain (if it is chain).

VW do an upgraded Cam Chain kit.

They would only have those if alot of people have had problem with them right??

If they slip/snap could be engine right off.

Just got me really thinking now the car has hit 50k.

Yeah I read its a common fault of them slipping,
Mine has just passed 60k and isn't as stable idling

Seems stable on start up, Idling just under 1000rpm
sometimes upon stopping it just dips down to 6-7000
nice old shudder and shes fine.

Cant be good though?!
