Its a good idea in principle, but the gearbox on the car wont hack it - they barely cope with the power put through them as standard.

You'll need to look into toughening up all the engine components before you begin, or itll be a wasted effort :(

i'de be willing to change the gearbox but not more than i that i was only planning on runnin it at very low psi maybe 6-10 psi or summin using a t25 turbo with a cossie intercooler running a fifth injecter triggering the extra fuel with a switch to run the turbo. was wondering would i need to spend any more money though.

thanks

Might I suggest you buy the book called "maximum boost" by Corky Bell and read it, and understand it fully, turbocharging is not a simple as just bolting a turbo to the exhaust and plumbing the pipes to feed back into the engine!!?

I would hazard a guess that the standard engine management wont cope, the standard throttle body wont cope, and i far to restrictive anyway....

If I wa going to turbocharge the car (which I was considering for a while)... I would have the engine out and give it a full blueprint rebuild, fit it with bike injection throttle bodies with a nice cutom plenum linked to the turbo via the intercooler, I would then be looking to fit an aftermarket management system.....

I Know someone has successfully turbocharged a GTI before, im not sure exactly what they did though....

Dont let the above put you off, its fantastic that you want to do something different :)

Just a fort,

Purchase a lupo gti engine and 6 speed box and build it up out the car then transfer ur parts strait over once you know ur running and everything is ready!

That way you can still drive ur polo to get the turbo bits!

Or buy a new polo gti engine and start there with upgrading as im sure parts will be plentyfull!

No1 has done the new gti lump in our 6n2's?????????????

Be easier just to get th 1.8T 20V lump

It can handle a lot more power than a 1.6 16V Turbo engine ever could. Be interesting if you do go ahead with it though, there is some guy with a 6N2 GTI Turbo on youtube and I think that was running about 185-190 BHP on th standard box

rothe motorsport do them

http://www.rothe-motorsport.de/gallerie ... 4_001.html

220BHP...I think it's around 7,000euro's for the parts or 12,000euro's all done....

They have a lupo GTi conversion running 265BHP

much better value to go the 1.8T route IMHO+better potential.....but....this is what you get for your moneys:

RM exhaust turbo-elbow union
spec RM KKK supercharger
spec pressure capsule owner inclusive pressure capsule and linkage
Oil inlet and return pipe turbocharger
Adapter for oil pressure switches
RM intermediate plate for compression reduction (alternatively we offer also forging pistons against surcharge)
Wasseranschluesse turbochargers
Intercooler
Intercooler pipes
Silicone hoses
Screws and clips
Turn off valves
Breech piece between turbochargers and Kat
Sucking in turbocharger (blanks from aluminum)
Sport air cleaner
spec owner for engine wiring harness/plug unit
RM forging piston
spec connecting rod bearing
Intercooler
Pressure pipes, hoses and clips
Breech piece between turbochargers and Kat
changed catalyst
RM wiring harness
Spec controller with elek. Load pressure control and torque delimitation (280Nm)
Load pressure and sucking in temperature sensor
Spec air mass measurer
Adjustment and optimization electronic engine management
Oil cooler plant thermalstatically regulated
strengthened clutch

Hi Guys,
I found this topic via Google, while i was searching for information about 6n2 gti turbo.
Because.. i've got a polo 6n2 gti, with a custom rebuild 1.6 16v ARC engine including turbo.

a link to my introducion-topic for the changes: http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... =7&t=49960

Ben
i think you saw my video on youtube, my engine produced with stock internals and low boost 189hp.
a broken crankshaft poulley caused the death of the pistons and valves.

offtopic, i will copy all the info in a seperate threath to introduce me

I bet there would be a lot of people interested in Turbo charging their GTI but due to there being so much work involved it would probably be more cost effective to drop in the 1.8T 20V lump. Anybody have any idea how much it would cost to stick a Turbo on the 1.6 engine?

I have heard you have to uprate everything, Pistons, Conrods, Crankshaft, Camshafts etc etc

If this was 5 years ago when I would say go for it but with the value of the car and the cost to do it you might as well buy a Seat cupra and tune it.

But.........If you do it then well done.
