The Bloody 9n

Post by Johnjourno »

Has it a few weeks, been to the garage 3 times, never been washed by them (SG Petch)

Went in for lack of power, not constant, came on when warm, I thought, possibly MAF, went to garage, they said, turbo, waste gate is sticking open when warm and losing pressure, hence power loss, sounded odd for a dub but whatever, bad for 44k miles and fsh, anyway, they got it back for "thurther diagnostics" into it, a.k.a. take it to vw,

Results
A vaccum pipe needed replacing, and the wheel bearing got done too, the noise developed very fast with that one, anyway, all running fine now but can't believe they guessed at a, and I quote "£800 turbo"

good job i got the platinum warranty for £100 which covers all of this, just gutted now I wasn't getting a new turbo for £100, oh well

Yeah, I've heard of so many stories where it's problems in the vacuum lines (which cost relatively little to rectify) and the diagnosis is a blow turbo. I'm presuming it's a 1.4? Which vacuum hose is leaking?

Yep I am starting to get a bit of a whistling noise so the vacuum pipes will be getting binned and new ones on when the timing belt and water pump gets done not bad for 71k+ miles.

**The name of the company used is not fictional it is fact and a very true story of true service level to be expected from a large car company**

1.4tdi had my doubts in the start but happy the way it has behaved for the last 5yrs(almost), pretty much trouble free other than silly things that could be sorted quickly by me and not taking it to the "REALLY PROFESSIONAL MECHANICS@ ARNOLD CLARK" *****NOT*****...........Biggest shower of plonkers I have ever met in my life! Appparently they don't have mechanics (VERY APPARENT), they have technicians and ones without any commonsense. Example reverse lights not working correctly ie not coming on when engaging reverse gear.

Phone call to book it in, told them exactly what was wrong as I had taken the trouble to fault find bulbs wires fuses etc everything fine nothing from the switch so switch at fault, under warranty at that time so thought well surely they can't go wrong with a simple job??? Well F*** ME!

1st visit was told everything's working fine after 3hrs sitting like a plonker as they joyride in the car park. gets the car back and reverse out noticing the cars reflection in their shiny windows. no reverse lights !

2nd visit the week later. AHA they found the fault the computer"SAYS" fault at the terminal end. Now for those out there that are not upto speed with this techno s**t. It means the switch is knacked. Baring in mind when I had called originally to book the car in I told them to have a switch in stock, well you know what is next. " Oh we have to order the part you will need to book the car back in. Bloody marvelous so far 6 hrs and two days wasted checked the bulbs and low and behold the f***ers had changed my new bulbs for scanky ones that were not Vw ones. couldn't prove it though.

Finally went back for a third visit and the car was back working correctly. Whilst I was in I heard a daft lassie on the phone saying to a mug, sorry customer that she reccommended an engine flush on a brand new car! and that they would need to charge the air conditioning. at 6 months no way total rip off and how can a girl of what 16 advise anybody about anything?

They told me I had to have my boot closed to get the reverse lights working and they told me I only had one reverse light. God Arnold Clark you are the bees knees for Arseho**s and the service is second to none as in nobody is as bad as they are.

It's a shame because the sales man I dealt with was a really nice guy who gave fantastic service but the rest of the operation well I can't write my true feelings on it but the words AVOID AT ALL COSTS! say it all politely.

Cheers Lads and Lassies in VW world HAPPY DRIVING.

Moral of this story- if in trouble and in renfrewshire / ayrshire go to Ingrams in Ayr worth the journey don't go near any Arnold Clarks unless buying a new car and you are getting a deal.
