SLIPPING CLUTCH?
I noticed on the motorway in the week somethign strange with the revs in my 2000 polo gti
Seems only to happen over 3000rpm, for example when im cruising at 70mph about 3000rpm, if i boot the gas to overtake the revs shoot up but with very little increase in speed but if i feed the gas in the revs and speed climb like normal. im one to feed the power in anyway but im wondering if there are signs of the clutch slipping?
any help would be appreciated
cheers
Jack

Re: SLIPPING CLUTCH?
It does have the symptoms of clutch slipping, but I would expect it to do that in every gear.
Do you know when the clutch was last replaced? if it does need changing then your best going for the uprated SACH clutch.
Does it slip when you put your foot down in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th?

Re: SLIPPING CLUTCH?
yes it does but only when driving it hard...but getting up to speed on motorways etc there is no problem. just happens if i stab the throttle. havent looked through the records in detail yet, i was going to take it for a service and oil and filter change and also a cam belt if it needs it.
ill look into those clutches though, ill get it looked at in the service. best sort it now rathe than later.
thanks for your help

No problem mate, sounds like it will be your clutch then.jacko_b_23 wrote:yes it does but only when driving it hard...but getting up to speed on motorways etc there is no problem. just happens if i stab the throttle. havent looked through the records in detail yet, i was going to take it for a service and oil and filter change and also a cam belt if it needs it.

Yeah make sure you check the cambelt history, thats a MUST on the Polo GTI.
I paid the price for not checking mine and the tensioners failed. That's a very costly fix
Hope you get it all sorted

Re: SLIPPING CLUTCH?
holla...im going for an oil an filter change tomorrow so ill get boss man to assess the situation, though i want to get the cam belt done too which i think is more important. no burning yet so i reckon i can afford to wait a while til i shell out for a clutch replacement.
you fellas got any reccommendations clutch-wise?

SACHs kit, hands down best. GSF can get hold of it, give them a ring though as they don't necessarily have it on the shelf.
a SACHs kit is about £100.

Re: SLIPPING CLUTCH?
belated reply i know, anyways, couldnt get hold of a SACHs one so stuck an LUK clutch in instead an ive got to say has made the world of difference and the daily commute to uni so much easier!
Re: SLIPPING CLUTCH?

Re: SLIPPING CLUTCH?
whaa £180! great price! i ended up paying about £250 parts and labour but as well as the clutch getting done I had to get new gearbox oil seals fitted, cuz the one fitted to the recon 'box was a bit damaged and was actually leaking small amounts of oil and some got on the clutch so no wonder it was slipping!
think the original clutch couldve just been cleaned up a bit and worked ok, but i stuck a new one in anyway...peace of mind
