Tyre Pressures

Post by SilvaGTI »

Hi,
Could someone tell me correct tyre pressures for a standard Polo GTi. I've been looking at the ones on the petrol flap cover but these seem to be for 170/40/14 tyres and not the 195/45/15 GTi ones for some reason. I'm running on 34 psi front/32 psi back at the moment. Is this correct?

Cheers

2.7 BAR in Rear
2.5 BAR in Front

But that's with a trunk full of Bass and my Lardy Ass!

You might want to lower that a tad if you've got no luggage.

Tyre Pressures

Post by Si_GTi »

I asked my local dealership not long after getting the car - the inside of my petrol cap is blank :?

They told me 2.1 front, 2.3 rear, but I normally have it same as carmadaaron, 2.1 all round. Seems OK to me...

Cheers for everybody's responses. Surprised to see that several people have the rear pressure higher than the front. Is this because you are carrying several passengers/storing heavy stuff in the boot?. I'd have thought that the pressure in the front should be set higher than the rear :?

I have a lot of "Luggage" permanently screwed into the boot.

lol

I am worried now that I might have gone a bit OTT with 2.7 and 2.5

I might lower that a little now that everyone else seems to be rocking 2.1 all round.

Nitrogen??

Post by Si_GTi »

Hey Josh aren't you on nitrogen gas in your tyres? Would that change the pressures due to it being a different gas (hence 2.5/2.7)? There was something I was gonna ask about the nitrogen option actually - what happens when you need to add a little pressure? Can you use regular air or do you have to go back to the nitrogen supplier again?

AFAIK, pressure is pressure, regardless of the type of gas used.

Not sure though, but that's what I'd figure.

I'm running 2.9 Bar up front, to keep the tyres on the rim.

speedlaw, your tyres look very narrow at the front, what width are they? i know your wheels are 7x15.

They're 165-50-15's, indeed quite narrow. The banner in my sig shows the wider 195's btw.
