Colour Coding Info

Post by jcarroll »

Evening all,

Quick Question about colour coding... Are the side strips glued on or are they fixed with clips? Need to book the car in for bits of paint so gonna get some bits together to be prepped before they go in.

Thanks

I bought a new set from VW (textured) and then sanded these down and primed them off the car. Once the bodyshop had sprayed the new ones and fitted them I sold the ones that were originally on the car.

They're clipped in and glued slightly. The side ones will come off, but the front and rear bumper ones need to be pressed out from behind. Hence why I got a spare set.

FYI, it took me hours to de-texture the textured strips properly, and I'd probably just get the pre-primed ones if I did it again!

They are NOT clipped on! :) I took mine off for color codding and they were STUCK on by double sided tapes! At the time I checked with my local VW dealers and http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/ and they both said, they were never made to be clipped on!

You can either buy them textured or primered! But again they all come with double sided tapes.......

Also only the front and rear bumpers are clipped on as David said in his post

True, the side ones have locating lugs. So the side of the car will have a whole load of holes in it if you remove them temporarily.

Yes they have holes at the side but as said before the dealers were confused as well since no clips...etc were mentioned on the ETKA :?
