New polo problem, rev counter

Post by Godderz23 »

My rev counter is sitting at 3,000 rpm when its idling, however from the sound of the engine its at its usual 1,000.

When i turned the engine off the needles sitting at 2,00 rpm!

Any ideas how i can fix it?

Never seen that problem before dude, hopefully Alex can shed some light on how to fix this.
Hopefully its a DIY job rather than having VW asses the problem

Its the dials going out of calibration. Sometimes it requires disassembly to fix, but often fixes itself :)

This problem has come back...!

Basically it usually happens either if I rev it high out of gear (which i don't do!) or mostly when i park up and turn the engine off.

All the needles (petrol, speedo, oil) drop to the bottom, however the rev counter drops to about 1,000 rpm and then sort of twitches a bit and seems to settle between 0 and 1,000rpm. So when i start it up next time it (depending on tempreture outside) sits at between 1,500 and 2,000rpm :x

A couple times i'll go out the next morning and it will have dropped back to 0, but its doing my head in now!

So what do i do? Im thinking just buy a set of clocks from a breaking gti, as i doubt anyone would sell me just the rev counter.

Yeah...or neah?

I had a similar problem in an old 206 of mine... the speedo used to get stuck at 70mph sometimes when travelling at motorway speeds, then when i eventually slowed down and stopped it still said 70..... when i set off again it'd start going up from the last point it got stuck.

ie. speedo was reading 100mph when I was doing 30mph :D
