GTi or G40.....

Post by MrP »

Long story short I had a moment of madness and got bored of the GTi... I put it up for swaps on some larger VW forums. I removed the advert rather quickly but i was contacted and i'm now in discussion for swapping my GTi for a G40...

I have ALWAYS wanted a G40.. and I mean always.

But.. I love my GTi for it's mod cons and comfort. I have spent a ridiculous amount of time and money on the GTi getting it running nice.

I'm 26 and i'm bored of old rattling car's which are just unrefined. But I still want a G40 at somepoint in my life, it on my list of things to do. Now, i'm at that age where I work all the time and use a car a lot... So if I don't get a G40 soon I will only ever own one as a second car, which won't be for years and years.

What do I do!!!!?

Keep the GTi, I say.

Look at it this way, if you opted for a G40 for your daily car, you will lose all your comfort and you'll always be concious of the car breaking down etc.

I would wait if I were you and get one as a second car / weekend car.

I would love a G40 too, they are proper little hot hatches and really tuneable.

If I had the choice now I would keep the GTI for comfort & reliability reasons, however if your looking more for performance then go for it and get the G40.

Tough call to make, it would have to be a mint G40 with reasonable mileage in order to convince me.

With Winter coming up though its probably not a wise idea to switch.

have a chat with my boyfriend hes on clubpolo under the name of GTI JACK

he owned my GTI, but sold it to me to buy a G40
he had wanted both a g40 and a gti, but when he found the gti he got he fell in love and brought that.

The G is a hell of a lot of fun. and he is constantly getting stopped by people of all ages to ask him about it.
it brings a smile to his face all the time and he will never part with the car.

how ever.
he is dreading winter coming...

the car spins in 1st and 2nd in general. i mean 1st really doesnt exsist in his car.
when its wet itll spin in 3rd and 4th to....so i dont think hell be getting far in the ice and snow of winter.
plus he really misses his creature comforts.
going from the gti with its climate control which gets you heated almost straight away. to a car that takes a hell of a lot longer to heat up (tho when it does it almost burns you! does get really hot on the feet!)

the rattles also drive him NUTS!!! he cant stand rattles in general. but has always managed to hunt them down and stop them.
but this car jst has rattle after rattle.

he also misses a good sound system. it was his job for 4 years. doing sound instals. which is why my GTI has (in my opinion) such a fantastic sound.
but its hard to get that with the G. all stuff about the shape of the car. and the way it rattles as it is.
he wants to evenutally do a full retrim and get door speaker pods and stuff. but it Will need dynmatting through out.

and he doesnt plan on keeping it as his daily for long.
like i said he will never part with the car. but he is saving for an m3.
the chap who owned it before him also had a number of cars.
it jst comes off as the sort of thing you cant live with every single day.

i guess hes lucky cose he gets to (in a way) keep both cars, hell never go back to a GTI but he often still drives it and admits to how much hes the comfort and such. and goes on about how it is such a good car. but its jst not as fun as the G

sorry for the essay! hope it helps in some way!
