Projector Fog Lights

Post by b1ondie86 »

Lol, hello again people! :D

Just another small wondering I had whilst sat around thinking about my car (lol). I'm sure I've seen some VW's with projector fog lights...and I thought they looked really cool. However, my 9n3 doesn't have fog lights, so I'd have to fit it all and everything - but I can't find kits with projectors FOR polos. I can find them for golfs and boras etc. I was thinking then - would it be possible to wire these kits to a polo? Or am I talking crazy talk now.

Golf / Bora kits wouldn't wire up. They use a relay for the foglamps whilst the Polos don't. Not to mention they wouldn't fit

It is possible to retrofit them though if you have the required parts. I was considering at one point building plug and play kits for the Mk6 / 7 Polos but there wasn't any interest. How much do the retrofit kits for the Golf / Bora go for anyway? Where are you located? I'm still looking at developing a kit, you could be the first one to try if you want?

Oooooooo, sounds interesting!?

I'm based in the South Manchester/Cheshire area...Is that too far?

I'll show you the links that I've been looking at and trying to put an idea together... :D

Firstly, some vaglinks stuff - http://www.vaglink.com/VAG/Golf_MK5_Fro ... lf_MK5.htm
http://www.vaglink.com/VAG/Golf_MK5_06_ ... lf_MK5.htm

but again, they're for a mk5 golf.

Then, this on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-99-04-Bora-Jet ... 20b4e6e62a
but I'm always a bit cautious about buying stuff from there.

And just to make it a bit more complicated - these are the lower grills I'm going to buy (Vaglink again, honeycomb cause I'm getting a chrome honeycomb grill)
http://www.vaglink.com/VAG/Polo_9N2_9N3 ... lo_9N3.htm

So, as you can see, kits go from £40 up to probably about £100 incl. shipping.

And you seem to know your stuff (from looking at other posts), so, I trust you Ash! What d'ya reckon?

I'm in Blackburn at the moment (well, till I find a job anyway), so not too far away. The best friend's other half lives in Cheshire :)

Bear in mind you also need to budget for a new headlamp switch. The one on cars without front fogs pulls out once to turn the rear fogs on. You'll need a switch which has two "levels" - You pull it out once for the front fogs and twice for the front and rears. Apart from that, it's just a matter of some wire, a fuse, the lamps themselves and lower bumper grilles. You need lamps specifically designed for the 9n3 Polo if you want them to fit right. I don't believe these were of the projector type, but just the old fashioned reflector variety.

I'm up for helping out with this. I'll send you a pm tomorrow and we can sort something out :)

Alright, sounds like a plan!

I've found this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-Golf-MK4-4-Pas ... 1e5ee078b3

It says it fits a polo 9n but it looks preeetty similar to the one in my car.

Or there's this - http://www.vaglink.com/VAG/Polo_9N2_9N3 ... lo_9N3.htm
