Front brake pads`

Hi there,
I need to change my front pads due a minor mishap with a CV gaiter, however I've never done this on a car with sliding callipers before. Do I need a calliper re-wind tool to do this, or is it not needed?
Is there a recommended way of doing this too?

No rewind tool is needed. You can just push the piston back with a big spanner or similar

Easy enough to do. Just unto the two rear caliper bolts, slide the caliper off remove old pads, fit new pads with backs greased up, push piston back in, refit caliper, refit bolts

Do u need to wind the rear brake pads back or can they be pushed back as well?

Currently doing my rear but when the rotate they dont seem to be moving back? They are rotating quite easy,any idea's/advise? Cheers

I have managed to get the pistons back in and the new pads on(front and rears). I have bleed all 4 corners but the brake pedal stil seems to have lots of travel? Confused and worried bout driving it to far. Any help would be great. Cheers

What order did you bleed in? Should be firm if you have replaced pads all round.

i done the rears 1st. Got alot of air out of 1 of the rears but then all the rest seemed fine,took it out n the brake pedal had far to much travel,rebleed them all again but stil the same problem? Confusing or what! I thought it would be a nice afternoons job but has now turned into a nightmare!

Its hard to say. Id start there and see what happens. Make sure you bleed it properly - ie pump the pedal 5 times then hold it, and get someone to undo the bleed nipple and once fluid stops running do it up.

Ok will give that a go. When i undone the nipple,i just opened it for a few seconds to see if there an any air present. R u saying i should keep the nipple open until the fluid stop coming through the bleeding kit? I was under the impression the fluid would just keep flowing into the bottle under the bonnet was empty?

Yes you keep it open till the flui stops flowing. Its a pressurised system so it wont just keep flowing.

You MUST make sure the master cylinder doesnt drop below MIN under the bonnet though or you will have big big problems.
