Urgent help needed oil pump

Post by Joe_Mk5 »

Hi guys this has been a bit of a nightmare and im after one last bit of help.
My volkswagen polo 1.4 8v year 2000 has just been put up for sale. ive had to put this on hold due to a oil light coming on whilst driving home.
The oil light that has come on so i pulled over phoned the aa and toed to my trusted garage.
Theyve told me that there is low oil pressure and 98% certain its a faulty oil pump.
they have quoated me just shy of £700 to have this fixed?
This cannot be right, i was in disbelief when i heard that figure!

Another vital question is the car has done 91000 would the pump breaking be down to normal wear and tear? or would it have just broken?
this is very important as i am covered with the aa for parts breakdown and will only cover it if it isnt wear and tear.

Thankyou in advance. Joe

The oil pump is chain driven and is located up inside the sump. its not a massively complicated thing to replace...just very messy to be fair :( But a 700 quid bill seems somewhat steep. Id expect 300 as an absolute maximum.
