DONT forget to check the oil after 800 to 1000 miles because it will almost certainly need topping up (all the others on here have, including mine at 900 miles).

DO boot it everytime you get the chance!

Do ask the dealer for 5 litres of oil as you will need this over the first year

Do warm it up before driving like you stole it

Don't run the engine in as in the book, drive it normally. Plenty of varied driving at all speeds (except max until run in mileage reached) to use the gears and all engine rpm.

Dont brake hard for the first few hundred miles or you will glaze the discs

Be warned about lowering the front geometry too far, you will actually destroy your handling. There is a thread on VW Vortex showing animations and all explaining how the Mk4 golf suspension works (the same as this polo) and why lowering can adversley affect your handling....

Honestly, from day one just abuse the f****r, I bought mine second hand at 4500 miles.. It drunk 4 litres of oil in 2 weeks and I done about 1000 miles, took it to VW and they couldn't find out where it was leaking so they put a new lump in for me.. I abused it from day one and it's been fine ever since! I later found out it was originally owned by a women so there you have it lol
