Going to attempt to change my steering wheel tomorrow, have read a few thread on removal. Disconnect battery, flat screwdriver etc...
Any of you guys done this?
Any hints/tips? Heard removing the clips on the airbag is a right struggle.

I didn't disconnect the battery when i did mine although for safe practice it is probably wise to.
The clips on the back of the steering wheel are a pig to get undone but as long as you have patience then you should get there in the end.

Ok chris, disconnect battery first. Turn the wheel so one of the holes is at the bottom. Insert a medium flathead screwdriver, with the back of it as far against the steering collum and the flat bit as far into the right hand side of the hole with the flat bit vertical. (sounds abit complicated i know but i tried for hours to get it off and this is the method to use. Then lever the screwdrier outwards from the steering wheel...
Think i'll draw a diagram as its far too late for me to emphasise!

Tried this evening for about 45 minutes with no joy. Got real mad and called it a draw. Will try again in a day or 2.
I get what you mean, I just cant seem to locate the springs, very weird.

Remove the plastic cover under the steering wheel makes it alot easier
The clips are really easy to remove - do not insert the screwdriver all the way. poke around and youll feel the clip
you need to push the handle of the screwdriver up towards the underside of the steering column as high as you can so the tip is angled downwards
IE steering column side \ steering wheel where \ is the angle of the screwdriver
you then pull down gently and youll feel the clip just pop off
Should take less than 5 minutes to do.

A well elucidated version of what i was trying to say

Don't just try any angle and
don't force it, you may bend the clips back permanently and it my never come off!
Once i had the technique, the other clip was a breeze.
Why are you removing the wheel anyway Chris?

You need to get a new scirocco wheel on there, they come off so easy compared to the polo gti wheel.
