The 9n GT - Thread revival!

Post by 88rsr »

Well youve probably seen me rambling on about the car even though its not mine, so I thought I might as well put it up for you to have a nosey at.
So here is my other halfs Polo

The day we collected it
Image
Image

First slight mod, tinted headlights (flyeyes love em or hate em)
Image

Debadged grille before I painted the notch (hi officer)
Image

De badged, center badge wraped and painted and bonnet notch done
Image
Image
Image

got rid of the debadged grille and wrapped the badge
Image

calipers painted blue and washed (hence rusty discs)
Image
Image

in the meantime it got remapped to 163bhp and 312lbft  but nothing otherwise for quite a while,

then recently did a deal to swap mods for standard stuff from a mates polo, you may know it from on here
but this is the only pic i have grabbed of it since....
Image

hope you like.... and i know its got too many doors

hah cheers, nah i dont mind it being a 5 door (i cant really seing as i drive the passat) but i do like the 9n in a 3 door guise,
got a couple more bits lined up for it in the form of a 9n3 gti roof spoiler (almost the same as the votex really)
got a spare set of headlamps im currently splitting, gonna paint the internals black and graft in some projector units, i know theres the fk halos but if i can pull it off then i'll be happy as they will have cost naff all in comparison.
also a votex kit if this one actually comes through this time, the last guy tried to rip me and another guy off with parts he apparently had for sale
so yeah hopefully wont be a bad little motor for our lass, although i probably drive it more than she does to be fair

Am thinking of doing something similar, although the way I plan on doing it might be more expensive

I was gonna get a set of FK angel eyes, drill a small hole where the main beam bulb sits and add a w5w for the sidelights. Then mod the wiring to take the w5w into account and disable the angel eyes. How much is it gonna cost you to do it the way you're doing?

On another note, picked up (well, paid for) a pair of Ibiza 130 TDI hubs. Now all I need are some calipers, discs and pads and hello big brakes! Manage to sort the ABS issue out yet? Hit me up via PM as I don't wanna hijack the thread.

Ash :)

as for cost on the headlights erm possibly about 40 quid  thats including buying the second hand ones,
nice one with the ibiza bits, you going for 312s or sticking with 288s?
and no not sorted the abs out, i need to have access to my car and tools so hers can be stripped down to get the wheel bearings swapped over... as it is currently my car is in doncaster and im using hers just to see how it is after lowering it i.e where can i get etc, (my car i can barely go anywhere if it involves the speedbumps which are centered  and she didnt want hers to be as low as mine)
but depending on the outcome of this weekend if she still isnt gonna need a car for a bit then i'll get hers sorted and then take it again to have alignment done, and the reason i havent had the alignment done yet as i plan to take it to bits again of course

Can you take some better pics of the front with the Cupra splitter? I'm tempted to get one of them along with a set of 9n3 GTI side skirts and colour code the lot.

And in regard to your previous question, I have no idea. I may go with the 288mm setup as I want to stick with 15" wheels. Paired with some Tarox Strada pads, I'm sure it'll be more than enough to reign in the 105 rampant German horses that live under the bonnet  How do the stock 288mm brakes cope with 160bhp?

Yeah will do mate, light was pretty low when I took the pic so I'm surprised its come out so well.
Hopefully if alls gone well a courier should have picked up a votex kit today so the lcr splitter will be coming off anyway eventually, might not get it sorted till the return of the better weather next year thinking about it. The splitter is a cool touch for the price they are from the dealers though (not that i bought mine it was again a pinched mod from my mates  )

As for stopping power I find they cope quite easily. They're only ATE power discs (which i had a spare set from a Bora i had years back) and ATE pads so nothing too special, they're only the same size as what my Passat had standard and they weren't the worst thing ever on that.

The stock 288 on mine do fine ash it over 220 hp. The stop well enough for the road and a drag strip. Dunno what they will be like round track. But if the brakes stop the car well enough from 70 - 0 then I say no need to upgrade unless you intend on racing or doing something along them lines. Accelerate fast to the speed limits ;) and the brakes are good enough for road use but like I say round a track 312mm are a must

a few years ago i thought it would be funny to do this exact thing next to the police, on a dual carriageway which was national speed limit to see if they would be fussed or not. luckily for me they weren't which is fair enough really why should they, but i suppose if they wanted to they could have taken it the wrong way. I was 18 at the time so it wasnt the best idea to be clever but i didnt have anyone in the car so its not like i was trying to show off to anyone either.

Boring story out of the way, night night people

Right well It's been a while, the cars still going good and finally after all this time the bits I've collected are on

So heres how it currently stands.
Image

Image

So for the benefit for those who dont know its now got a Votex kit on (front, sides and rear) and a 9n3 GTi roof spoiler, freshly refurbed TT comps with Yoko Paradas on, and black halo headlights (didnt really want halos but gave up on making a custom set of black projectors)
The Polo Dune/BBS RW wheels need a refurb but I'd like them back on as theyre just a little different than the TT comps (even though I think the TT's are a prefect wheel for the car) but just for a change now and then.
Overall though I'm happy with how it looks now (although I'd like it lower but its not mine to drive everyday so fair doos)
But im not overly happy with the fit on the Votex rear splitter, Its as if its ever so slightly wider than the standard bumper and has a noticable gap where it meets the wheel arches, anyone else found this with theirs or is mine just dodgy? lol

Anyhoo cheers

mate nice motor! quick question is the sidelight the led strip that goes across the light and the other hole only for the main beam? also do you notice much of a difference in terms of hid/xenon light through the projectors?

thanks dude

Cheers :D
Yes mate the halo ring and strip are the sidelight which is what I didnt really want, but I'm either going to try something else with the halos or disconnect them and put in a seperate sidelight probably in that main beam bit like the standard lights.
But I much prefer the beam cutoff and overall output with projectors compared with the standard reflector lights and they dont blind people with the hid's in so best of all worlds really.
