Many people have an air filter with no cover? I have a K&N cone, similar to the picture just red instead

Sucking in warm air from the engine compartment.. thats the intercoolers job to sort out :)

Im not saying cold air isn't better, but unless your pro drag racing, you would probably never notice all that much

Sorry for the shameless plug but I am selling a GTI K&N replacment pannel filter that keeps the standard air box but increases performance. its doesnt make that awful induction noise that others make as well. some sound like its a 1 litre corsa driving by.

yours for £20 + delivery. PM me if your interested.

Obviously colder is better... but unless your going to a custom made job to front of the grill then a cone with an air feed will pretty much do the job...

If your going for gains go with a panel filter and a bigger air feed to the box...

If your going for sound go for a K and N or similar as it sounds tasty :D

i just use a k and n panel :/ mainly because of the location of it, putting an open cone there you will get lots of heatsoak as has been said. I'm sure you can get one in a box that'd probably be the best option :)

Use Jetex filter and leave the lower part of the air box in place with a pd160 intake works well never loose power and get a nice dump sound and turbo whistle too remove the sound deadening from the bonnet too makes it louder
