I'm sure VW's had speakers in the back...

Post by kapur »

I'm sure that our old VW Bora had speakers in the bck! :?

so y dnt the polos have it?

i mean, it had about 6 speakers when i calculate from what i remember:-

4 in the front, like the polo! 1 in each door panel, and one next to the door handle...

and in the back, also in the door panels at the botom towards the foot-well, and near the handle....

DNT the polo's have an upgrade option when bought new?

I really want some speakers in the back of my 6n2!!!

EDIT :- forgot to mention... the polo does have the space next to the door handles in the rear for the speakers..
HAS ne1 sucessfully done it?

the ones near the handles were the tremble

My parents are on their second Bora now, both the old and the new are SE spec and have the 8-speaker system with tweets and mids, 4 up front and 4 in the back. They made a fuss about replacing the 1st car with another SE because the S and below have 'only' 6 speakers, amongst other things.

As for the Polo, weel my GTi has got speakers in the back, making 6 in all. So I'm guessing it was an option for lower-specced cars and standard on the likes of the GTi, TDi and 16v?? Are the spaces in the rear panels there for a set from a higher-spec car?

I've got a 2001 6n2, 1.4 16v auto S

Yeh, it's got the space for the tweets in the back doors... if i'm not mistaken, that is the place for them aint it?

also, how many speakers in total did the top of the range 6n2's have?

i really wanna get speakers in the back, at the mo... i've got a total of only FOUR speakers in my car. all in the front.

2 near the mirrors, and 2 in the door panels.

How much d'ya reckon VW would charge to fit the rear speakers?

Top-of-the-range 6n2 was the GTi as far as I know, and its diesel counterpart the TDi.

My GTi has the four speakers in the front like yours, each door has a small tweeter near the mirror and a larger midrange speaker in the lower door. In the back I have two more of the midrange speakers, one on each side, which as far as I know are the same speakers as in the front - they're located just in front of the rear bench. I haven't got a photo but I'll have a look and see if I can find one on the 'net or elsewhere on the forum.

As for VW fitting (and wiring up!) the new speakers... ask them about it, but bear in mind it'll be costly in comparison with taking the car to, say, a dedicated ICE specialist.

HTH

PS. Found polo2k's fitting guide for the rear speakers here:

but no pics 'cos its an old post...

Why do you want speakers in the back?

It'll mess up the soundstage something chronic!

Spend the money on upgrading your front components, you'll be much better off that way!

^^^ sorry, i dint quite understand! are the original 4 speakers in the front supposed 2 b gud? :?

You see, when passengers sit in the car, they complain that they can't hear anything in the back.... so i'd like to install the standard VW tweets...

also, a sub in the spare wheel arch!

Probably better off getting some 6x9s and putting them on the shelf.

Why do you consider getting a stealth shelf, that you way can't see the speakers from outside the car.

a stealth shelf is the same as a normal shelf it just has holes in it that are carpeted over on top.. the 6 by 9's just screw on under the shelf. you can remove the shelf just like normal.

NO NO NO NO NO.Nobody is ever better off getting 6x9's for any reason at all.The are the ice answer to cockroaches....persistent,and undesirable.
Most 6x9's are horrendously poor pieces of engineering, designed for the type of person who likes their music loud,at the expense of actually being able to listen to it.
I'm not writing this from the perspective of someone who has never done this....i used to have a pair of 6x9's.....for the week, before i binned them. They dragged the soundstage so far back,i was actually having to turn them off to listen to music. They weren't amped either....just run off a head unit. This was in a Mk3 Golf,so the problem would be worse in a smaller car, like a Polo.Do it,if you must, but don't say I didn't warn you.
The other thing is,stealth shelvess can be supplied with speaker cut-outs,but as far as i know, you still have to fit the speakers/wiring yourself.I have never come across anyone offering ths sevice.....not to say it doesn't happen though.
