How do you find the ride comfort/quality? (GTI Owners)
As above, just wondering those with GTI's how do you find the comfort/quiteness when city driving? Ive only had my gti 5 or so weeks now and it sounds like my old 6 year old corsa did - a crack in the road or joining mark any deeper than a whisker seems to have one thing or another creaking or making a sort of plastic on plastic rubbing noise, and then theres the seatbelt adjuster at the top vibrating its nuts off. Is it just me or is VW's build quality not as its made out to be?

I just had my seat mounts/brackets replaced on the drivers seat as well. After having enough of the squeeking, I gave the seat a good wriggle and yep the whole thing was loose.

Mine is really good. I had a MINI before with 15" wheels and I was expecting the ride in the GTI to be poor, but I am very impressed.
Re: How do you find the ride comfort/quality? (GTI Owners)
I have to laugh at this comment because as many of us who have owner more then one VW can tell people, the build quality is no better, if not worse than many other esteemed supposedly inferiour vehicles out there:)Is it just me or is VW's build quality not as its made out to be?
Yeah the ride in the GTI is harsh, especially on the crap roads here in oz but I'm not that fussed because it's still somewhat compliant.
Re: How do you find the ride comfort/quality? (GTI Owners)
The ride quality isn't as good as my ED30 on Bilsteins - even though the Polo is also on Bilsteins.
Rattlewise the car is fine except I have had to put some velcro on the boot cover for the battery/spare wheel well to stop it knocking about over the dreaded concrete speedbumps on the road I live on!!!

Im getting more creaks by the day now, also got a very annoying rattling of the plastics around the DSG stick, can hear it over the radio even at 40% volume.
How would i go about these issues with VW do i just go down or ring up first?
Cheers!

Just ring them up and get it booked in, mines been in to have some rattles fixed, if it's in warranty then they should sort it out.
They probably wouldn't be able to do anything there and then if you just went down, also see if you can get one of the technicians to go out for a drive with you to make sure they hear the noises.

I've had 3 VAG cars, this is first new one i've bought, and its had more rattle than all the other put togther.
I really regret the panoramic roof as an option, its been into VW four times already to be fixed, is now improved but it is still there, and i've given up taking it back now, and just living with it.
The drivers door rattles when you play something with bass, doesnt even need to be loud.
The way i see it, The GTi maybe a nearly a 20k car but its still the 9k Polo with a tarted up engine and transmission ....

That's interesting re the roof....I kicked myself for not ordering it at the time. I wonder if there is any difference in build quality depending on which country it is put together?Tyler Owen wrote:I've had 3 VAG cars, this is first new one i've bought, and its had more rattle than all the other put togther.

Generally I am happy with build quality of our Polo GTI, it is a good step up from the Fiesta ST it replaced, but there are a few niggles. Oil consumption problems aside
Occasionally you get a noise which sounds like splattering raindrops on bottom edge of the windscreen, but it is not always there. It seems to be a heat thing (maybe due to expansion?). I have not noticed this for a few days though.
The drivers door panel (card?) can buzz a bit, if I hit it with my elbow it goes away, but will return a bit later!
The ride comfort can be quite harsh, but again not as 'crashy' as say a Fiesta ST. But for a GTI this can expected, certainly having the tyres up to the recommended 38PSI makes it quite a harsh ride.
We also own a Scirocco and that is a step up on the build quality of the Polo, ok, ok - its a Golf underneath!!
