does the gti use a maf or map sensor to determine fuelling based on incoming air?
basically, want to add an induction kit without upseting anything or needing a remap? is the gti happy with just the kit or am i likely to see a loss of power?
excuse the ignorance but im used to turbo motors where maximum air volume is good but i know some nasp engines are picky.
cheers
air volume inlet monitoring
Re: air volume inlet monitoring
from my knowledge its a map sensor. They dont have maf's. Fitting an induction kit wont make any difference to it really unless you increase the air flow dramatically eg a remap. As the map sensor controlls how much air is chucked in
Re: air volume inlet monitoring
So basically the ecu is capable of trimming fuelling as long as there's no boost?
Re: air volume inlet monitoring
yeah something like that. Basically the more you put your foot down the more air is chucked in and is all operated through the fly by wire system and it automatically adjusts the fuel trim to suit the amount of air going through. But adding an open cone air filter wont increase power. Its all noise making it feel like your getting power increase, you may get heat soak though depending on where you situate it
Re: air volume inlet monitoring
That's not entirely true though. More, colder air in equals more power whether a map or maf controls the fuelling. The issue is getting cold air which is why the k and n typhoon is the induction kit if choiceBepe wrote:yeah something like that. Re: air volume inlet monitoring
My unmapped ecu had 140bhp! Your ecu is adaptive meaning every so often it will learn all over again so the more aggressive you drive the more fuel/air will be delivered upon the throttle position. That's what AMD said to me so they should know a few things, an induction kit won't mess up anything if fitted properly it will be benefit so much! As said a k&n typhoon is your best kit for performance and looks etc.
Unsure what sensor they have though. No sensors on the intake or exhaust system apart from the lambda sensors.... I think

Re: air volume inlet monitoring
Just a MAP sensor and thats it. As said, the ECU manages it all
Re: air volume inlet monitoring
Map sensor on the side of the inlet manifold and a TPS on the throttle body.
